The 17th edition of IFFK has trained its spotlight on women directors. The presence of the acclaimed Brazilian director-actor-scriptwriter Helena Ignez at the 2012 IFFK is a feather in the crown. Metromatinee.com caught up with the versatile talent after the Meet the Director forum where she held centerstage. As a woman in a military ruled Brazil, Helena Ignez had to face many an obstacle. 'It was sheer passion and grit that has made me who I am today', she told metromatinee.com. Becoming a director was not a cakewalk for her. She had to struggle a lot to make it to the top. Hardwork and determination can tide you over any difficult situation'. Earlier at Meet the director, Helena who knows little English told the audience about her inspirations and opinions through a translator. 'Red Light Bended' by Rojerio Scanserla, who later became her husband, is a milestone in her career. His death has left a deep imprint on her mind. Regarding Brazilian film scene she said, 'the military rule and the overshadowing presence has done injury to the industry'. Her works are a reflection of the Brazilian life and culture. Helena is also equally passionate about theatre and loves being a theatre artist too. She find the diverse Indian film industry vibrant and considers the country as her second homeland. She revealed that Satyajith Ray's works are a wonder for her. An icon in film fraternity all over the world and her works considered as among the best films in the current century Helena Ignez definitely stands tall. Her advice to Malayali women through metromatinee.com to boldly come forward and explore their passion is certainly inspiring.
